Email newsletter - 1/29/12
It was great to see the people at the annual
banquet last night. Jerry once again outdid himself and cooked a
great meal (Ham, Roast Beef, Potatoes, Carrots, and gravy). The
side dishes and deserts brought in by everyone else were also very
delicious. There was a lot of good food and good stories. It is
an event that all club members should make an effort to attend.
Your club had a busy year this year. We
hosted 4 Indoor Tournaments, 4 3D tournaments, 6 bow hunter
leagues, a Monday night Traditional leagues that is going year
round, a 300 round league, several scout groups, the Golden Games,
a Lindenwood college outdoor familiarization class, and the Little
Hills Youth Archery program. All in all a busy year, but we will
be looking to do more this year. I am looking for ideas that will
help our club expand and gain increased participation. If you
have some suggestions, I would be glad to hear them. Feel free to
send me an email or give me a call.
The award winners this year were:
300
champion - Maxine Bots
3D
champion - Ed Griffith
Grand
Slam Award (2Deer and 2 Turkey) - Frank Tolivar
In addition,
Lifetime Membership was awarded to Cathy Ball for her work with
the club. She has been involved in developing the website,
volunteering at may youth events representing the club at Busch
Wildlife, and most recently with the creation of the Little Hills
Youth Archery Program. Congratulations to Cathy!
The Executive
Board elections were also held at the banquet. The 2011 board was
re-elected to serve in 2012:
President - Curt Pike
Vice-President - Ray
Bergfeld
Treasurer - Bill
Meiderhoff
Secretary - Mike
Niehoff
Don't forget
that our next 300 round tournament is February 5th (one week from
today). Registration will be from 8-Noon. This is a fun
tournament to shoot. Let's get all of our club members out there
for the shoot and fill up the building.
GOLDEN ARROW AWARD -
OVERALL CLUB CHAMPION
We have not
had the opportunity to hand out the Golden Arrow award for a few
years now. I would just like to take a little time to tell the
club about it to make sure everyone is aware of the award and what
it takes to receive it. To qualify for the award you must:
Shoot 2 3D
Tournaments
Shoot 2 300
Round Tournaments
Shoot 2 Field
Tournaments
Your scores for
these events then go into a handicapped calculation along with
other qualifiers and the highest score is awarded the Golden Arrow
Award.
The St Louis Bow Hunters no longer host any
Field Tournaments, but Northside Archers do host Field shoots out
at Creve Coeur park in the spring. 2 scores from any of these
field shoots can be turned in and count toward the Golden Arrow.
Simply have the scorecard signed by person running the Field shoot
and mail it to the club.
I have decided
to qualify for the award this year and challenge all our other
club members to do the same. It will make for good competition
throughout the year.
As always, keep up
with us on facebook and on the website. If you have any new ideas
for the club, please do not be shy about bringing them forward.
Our next board meeting will be Feb 12 at 6:30pm at the indoor
range.
Until next time -
Curt Pike -
President

Now is the
time to become involved!
Many of us are
aware that archery if a fun sport and all ages can participate. We
each have possibly a particular style of archery we prefer over
another. For those of use that have been in archery for a few
years or longer we are seeing fewer and fewer archery pro-shops that
have ranges and places to practice are becoming fewer. Many of us
live within city limits and practicing in our backyards is not
possible. This is brought this to your attention only because St
Louis Bow Hunters is a fine club promoting archery for the entire
family and promotes the different styles of archery for everyone's
enjoyment. We have a place to practice archery for now!!
Our club
differs from a business since the club is run with the voluntary
help of the club's membership.
Most
maintenance on the indoor range has been done by the club's
membership, your website, membership cards and flyers are
voluntarily done by the club's membership. Setting up and running
the tournaments (3D and indoor) are voluntarily done by the club's
membership. Picking up the food needed at the 3D shoots, cooking and
serving food at the 3D shoots are positions voluntarily filled.
Everyone looks forward to placing in a tournament and looks forward
to receiving a trophy for their performance. Someone has
volunteered their time assuring trophies are available for such
events. Club members voluntarily open the indoor range for everyone
to practice. Members voluntarily do running and organizing the
leagues. Our club's board devotes many hours to your club that
allows us to maintain a responsible archery club for everyone's
enjoyment.
We have an
outstanding membership in the St Louis Bow Hunters Archery Club, but
we are sorry to say only a small portion of our membership decides
to volunteer their time for the positions needed. We are coming to a
critical point in our club for new volunteers to step up in our
club. We thank and appreciate everyone's help for the positions they
held this year but everyone needs time off if they would choose to
do so.
Wouldn't you
like to become involved? Please, let us know what you would be
interested in helping with.
