St Louis Bowhunters Archery Club
uses paper animal targets that are placed from 7 to 20 yards
in our indoor range. These targets have marked vital zones on
each target used for scoring. The deer target shown above is a
typical target used in the bowhunter league. Brush is placed
around the target to make the shot more of a challenge but not
an unrealistic shot.

Pictured above are other paper animal targets
you may see in our bowhunter leagues.
There are several smaller animal targets that are used also.
18 different paper targets of
various types of animals are used each night of the league.
Every person places 2 arrow in a target from a designated lane
for their target. After each end the arrows are scored
and totaled for the night of each league. There is 216 points
possible each night of the league for each person. (18 targets
times 6 points each target times 2 arrows each person = 216
points each person). The distances are unmarked, you learn to
estimate the distance to the target. These leagues are good
practice for the hunter or youth learning to judge distance.
Just like bowling, a handicap
may be figured and used for each team. The number of persons
per team will be decided at the beginning of the league.
After a designated number of
weeks the team with the highest nightly wins for the league is
announced the winner. |
